K-9 Operations

In 2014, the department obtained a German Shepherd named "Bax" for patrol and narcotic canine operations.  Bax is also a dual purpose police dog, doing the same job that Boris did over the years. Boris has been assigned to Officer Jaret Reece.

Patrol & Patrol Canine Bax

In 2008, the department obtained a Labrador Retriever named "Boomer", specializing in explosives detection.  Officer Larry Wooddell is Boomer's handler.  Boomer spends most of his time doing sweeps of Lane Stadium and other special events, as well as normal patrol.

K-9 Demonstrations

Boomer and Boris enjoy conducting demonstrations for the Virginia Tech community.  The K-9 handlers are often taking Boris and Boomer to and from presentations in residence halls, offices and all around campus.  To request a K-9 Demonstration, contact Officer Larry Wooddell.
