Virginia Tech Police Department
K-9 Operations
In 2002, the department obtained a German Shepherd named "Hokie" for patrol and narcotic canine operations. Officer Keith Weaver was the handler until Hokie retired in 2008. Shortly thereafter the department obtained a new canine partner for Officer Weaver, "Boris". Boris is also a dual purpose police dog, doing the same job that Hokie did over the years. Since Officer Weaver's retirement, Boris has been assigned to Officer Jaret Reece.
Ret. Officer Keith Weaver & Boris
In 2008, the department obtained a Labrador Retriever named "Boomer", specializing in explosives detection. Officer Larry Wooddell is Boomer's handler. Boomer spends most of his time doing sweeps of Lane Stadium and other special events, as well as normal patrol.

K-9 Demonstrations
Boomer and Boris enjoy conducting demonstrations for the Virginia Tech community. The K-9 handlers are often taking Boris and Boomer to and from presentations in residence halls, offices and all around campus. To request a K-9 Demonstration, contact Officer Larry Wooddell.
