New Laws
An additional drug has been added to those that are prohibited by state law, as well as an ordinance in the Town of Blacksburg and a ban on the use of text messaging and email while driving. They are as follows:

The use of handheld personal communications devices to send or read text messages or email while operation a motor vehicle is a traffic violation in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Code of Virginia § 46.2-1078.1.

Salvia Divinorum is a felony to possess, purchase or transport anywhere in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Code of Virginia § 18.2-250.

The Town of Blacksburg has enacted a mandatory helmet ordinance for all moped users. Town of Blacksburg Ordinance 1497.
